Drag force you’re talking about at the alignment points has exactly same direction as line drawn on the alignment gauge this is the whole point of alignment points. Try to set up some cartridges the way you say and measure THD and IMD, try to set cantilever and check the same. What would be the point of printing straight line where stylus drops on gauge which most manufacturers do. Why would you align cartridge body is beyond my understanding, what are the chances that cartridge generator was aligned with cartridge body straight line, if straight line exists at all as many carts have different weird shapes. Claimed to be the best tone arm in the world. This 5500 tonearm mates extremely well with many TT including Avida that mine was mated with. I do agree I was bit vague about the process of cantilever alignment, what I do is keep cantilever just above alignment gauge and stylus is just off the gauge with no forces applied to cantilever, this is your optimal cantilever position within the generator, drag forces, skating force and anti skating force don’t come to play just gravity which works same all over the most of the globe. In theory this is the position of cantilever when perfectly set up, in most cases not possible as skating force changes over the travel and most arms don’t compensate for it. Excellent condition SME Series V tonearm with original inner packaging, alignment protractor, hardware and tonearm cable.
